I'm going to Tokyo from Sept 18 - 22 and I'm going to bring my Galaxy S with me. Does anyone know what the rates would be for roaming and data? I looked into phone rentals but that was quite expensive so I think it might just be cheaper to roam?
I'm concerned that I'll receive a bunch of incoming text messages and get charged for them. Will that cost me?
Also, I am meeting a few Japanese friends there and may need to make a call or text and am prepared to do that if something goes awry trying to meet them, I'd expect some charges. I stopped by SK on the way home and the English speaking rep who normally helps me wasn't there. My Japanese friend has push email on her phone that works just like texting, so I've been contacting from gmail with my phone so it should be just as reliable as texting each other, I hope the data won't be insanely expensive
Thanks! |

when you land in tokyo SK will actually send you about 5 text messages explaining all your rates too you.
I don't believe you're charged for incoming non-mms text messages. |

You can find the rates at www.tworld.co.kr The site is really annoying because it won't allow me to link to the actual rate list, it always just goes back to the main page.
Anyway, here are the rates for Japan...
Calling within Japan - 500 won/minute
Calling from Japan to other countries (including Korea) - 1200 won/minute
Receiving calls - 240 won/minute
Video calling within Japan - 950 won/minute
Video calling to other countries 1850 won/minute
Receiving video calls 1860 won/minute
Sending text (SMS) anywhere in the world - 150 won each
Receiving text (SMS) - free
data 4.55 won/kilobyte
Seems odd that it costs more to receive a video call than to send one, but that's what it says. All in all, the rates to Japan are pretty good compared to what you would pay in other countries. |
