So I have just had a job offer starting in the middle of October... really cool but doesn't leave much time for booking flights after getting my Visa at the beginning of October!!
For those of you from the UK did any of you find cheap flights, if so which websites/airlines? Any help to get the price below 500 would be brilliant. Also did you get a one way or return flight? And how do you book local flights in Korea (like an English website) as I will need to fly from Seoul to Jeju, can't find an English site that can help
Last question what is the luggage allowance? I know flying from here to South Africa and America it's a 20kg (push to 24kg) allowance, is that still the case? I have read on here somewhere before that you could take 30kg's but the search function won't let me find it!! Don't know if that is from the States though.
Thanks all!! |

20kg with China Air (and I think that's pretty standard across most companies that fly out here). I got a one-way flight with them for about 340 pounds. I got that by using one of those comparison sites but I can't remember which one. As for flying to Jeju, I have no idea. |

Emirates usually has the best prices. Very comfortable airplanes too.
I flew with them in January from London... can't remember the exact baggage allowance, but my bag weighed about 27kg, and it wasn't a problem. |

These days its becoming more uniformly a 20K checked in allowance and 10K cabin bag weight for economy international (non-america) - but there is slight variations between airlines on this - you just need to google the airline and add 'baggage allowance' to see.....
The rules hardly ever used to be enforced and people got away with even 30+ KG at no extra charge but its more risky these days - you really don't want to be told to take stuff out or pay the excess (incredible expensive per extra kg). We had that happen on the way back from New Zealand this year and it's a nightmare - one trick is to put the extra weight in hand luggage because even if they are strict on check-in they never seem to weigh or count hand luggage... |

Up until at least July, Emirates were doing 515 (if not traveling outbound on a Fri or Sat) round trip tickets via Dubai if booking directly through their website. Luggage allowance is 23 kg hold and 7 kg cabin baggage. That seems pretty much a standard for UK outbound flights. Cancellation returns were also better if booked through their website rather than a travel agency. As there are something like 5 flights per day, last minute booking (ie, 3 days before) was no problem for me. |

I usually use Emirates, I find that they are really good and they have, in the last year or so, started giving 30kg baggage allowance. If you are under 26 I recommend using statravel. I think you are supposed to sign up for a young person travel card or something like that but I've never been asked to show it at the airport. |

For flights from Seoul to Jeju I'd use the Korean air website http://www.koreanair.com . It's not the easiest to use and you'll probably need to use Internet Explorer like most Korean sites.
Also the last time I checked you needed to be a member before you can even see the prices and schedule, so I'd suggest signing up first. |

I flew Emirates - Glasgow-Dubai, Dubai-Seoul, and the last leg Seoul - Daegu was with Korean Air. Emirates ticket was around 425 and flights were fantastic...I'd avoid Chinese airlines like the plague from past experience! Next best are normally KLM, but with Emirates I did get a 30kg luggage allowance. Korean Air was supposed to be 20kg, but there was no problems at all.
Fly.com is a good site to see prices and routes...you should be able to get one itinerary from start to finish which should stop any problems when you change airline with luggage restrictions.
Hope that helps...but aim for Emirates. |
