I'm looking into attending graduate school here and was wondering if any of you had pursued an MA or PhD in Korean Language & Literature within Korea? Are there any programs that are especially welcoming to foreign students? I have a background in literature and a strong interest in Asian literature (as well as a basic command of the Korean language), and I'm considering turning this interest into a career, though I'd like to focus more on comparative literature and intercultural topics in doing so.

To give you some background, I have a year of full-time Korean language study at a university under my belt but still have a long way to go before I am able to read Korean literature in a nuanced way. At the same time, I don't think I can afford continued language study on my own and think scholarships might be more readily available through a graduate program here, which is why I'm hoping there's a program out there that starts out with developing language ability (or at least gives foreign students the opportunity to develop their language ability without penalty) and then progresses to a deeper study of Korean literature, kind of like a Korean language/literature program in a Western country would.

Any information/direction would be greatly appreciated.

Hey, you can look into the NIIED scholarship, google it. But, they will give you a year of language school money and then pay for grad school here.

That was an excellent suggestion. Thank you.

Does anyone happen to know anything about specific schools/programs that might be foreigner-friendly when it comes to this type of degree?
