For any Canadian who has recently completed the process, how long did it take to get your apostilled documents back and get your visa issuing number approved... and finally get the stamp in your passport? (3 part process). (I know I have to Fedex the stuff to Korea... I just want to know how long the Korean side of things will take).
Or, maybe how long was the whole process if you can't remember?
I want to know if there is enough time between June 26 and July 20 to get everything approved and arrive in Korea. A school wants to hire me for summer camp and then for a year starting in September.
Thanks!
EDIT: I can't start the process until then as I am working in China right now. |

As a Canadian you don't get anything apostilled.
Canada is not a member of the apostille treaty.
You need to send stuff (original RCMP check and certified true copy of your degree) to the Korean embassy/consulate in Canada to have it authenticated.
This will entail a Canadian address for them to send it back to (they don't send it out of Canada).
Then it needs to be sent to you so you can send it to Korea.
Then you get the visa confirmation number and can apply for a visa.
(if you have a "Z" visa you can get your E2 in China. If you don't then you will need to get it in Japan).
In CANADA, after you have your RCMP check in hand, the process (from authentication to receipt of the visa) takes 12-21 days.
From China... all bets are off since getting your documents sent back and forth via a 3rd party in Canada will take months). Heck, it will take up to 6 months to get your RCMP check done if you are in China and don't have it already.

Hi Tom,
I plan on starting the process in Vancouver, not in China. I can't start it here, I realize that time-wise it would take months and months.
Thanks for the info though. It's doable... But, I might tell the school it's not possible... unless they are okay with me showing up late. |

From within Vancouver you can get the preliminary stuff done in 7-10 days: obtain a CBC, get the embassy authentication, get the degree notarization and the embassy authentication.
It will take a 4-5 working days for the visa confirmation number (after it lands on the desk at immigration). It will take 2-4 days to send it to Korea and who know how long to go from the receiver to the immigration desk and then e-mail the visa confirmation number back to you.
It will take 2-4 working days to process the visa once you have the number.
It takes 35 hours to fly from YVR to ICN due to the international date line (10-14 hours flight time + 24 hours for the date line).

Thanks again Tom!
I told the school it could take 17-25 days. I also said they might be better off looking for someone else for the summer camp. |
