LOL....
Haven't had a peek in the contract sticky thread yet I see.
Contracted for 20-21 classes of 80 minutes per class (with a 10 minute mid class break effectively making it 90 minutes in the class).
That means you spend 1800+ minutes per week in front of your class.
The next dude who is doing 30 classes of 50 minutes (per week)/6 classes per day in the next hagwon each gets the same salary and benefits.
You effectively get to spend an extra 5 hours per week in front of your class for nothing.
Then you should read the rest of the contract or look at the way the SLP contracts have been torn apart in the sticky thread.
Your a big boy and fully capable of making your own decisions but don't say you haven't been warned.

Are all SLPs the same with those set class times?
I took a position with SLP in Gwangmyeong for late August, and have talked to the girl I'm replacing about hours, overtime, etc. It seems she teaches six 50 minute classes a day. If you take into account breaks and prep time etc. the hours are about 8 a day.
MWF is 940 to 540
TR 940 to 440
These times include all the prep etc. She says she rarely ever works any overtime unless a colleague is sick and has to cover his/her class.
It seems you know a lot about teaching in Korea, so I was just wondering if their branches vary or if they are changing their class structures a bit, maybe? |

Yeah exactly what I was thinking 9 ( all branches are different).
Didn't see the actual contract ( sorry for misinforming), just the
job posting... Was liking the 9-5 hours.
6 (50) minutes classes a day are actually Hagwon Standard and norm.
If you work in a afternoon intensive program, it is usually 8-9 classes (
somethimes 30 or 40 minutes) excluding prep time.
Anyways thanks
Oh and I am a girl..

What does the contract say though? I knew people who worked at SLPs, and they had the 21 80 minutes sessions in their contracts Some were lucky and didn't have to teach the maximum, but others were unlucky and had to teach the full 21 sessions. The point is though that the contract does say it and the school has the option to make you teach that much. This is much more likely during intensive months and can definitely leave you feeling burned out quickly.
Some branches of SLP are better than others, but overall I would definitely recommend avoiding SLP if at all possible. There are better jobs out there, and many other hagwons seem to require less teaching hours.

SLP is mediocre at best. You will probably be paid and paid on time. However, you might find yourself working more hours than the average Jane.
You decide. |

the devil is in the details.
READ THE CONTRACT.
You sign it = you agreed to it ... so don't sign unless you mean it.
Oh, and a job posting from a recruiter is NOT the contract.

The SLP in geumjeong if you work the 9 to 5 shift you are working two 80min kindergarten classes, middle school does not start to 3:00,
although I would recommend getting a job at McDonald's cleaning toilets before working at this school. |
