Good evening:

I am a Canadian citizen currently in Sydney, Australia.

I want to teach English in South Korea and I know that I need to get a criminal background check done to do so.

Is it possible to get a CBC done while I remain in Sydney or do I have to fly back to Ottawa?

Would it be easier to fly into Korea and do everything from there, or is that not even possible?

Thanks for you help.

Cheers,
Matt

Yes, you can get your CBC done while you are in Australia.

It takes about 4 months.

Then there is the matter of getting it certified by the Korean Embassy/consulate in Canada.

Then you need to deal with getting your degree certified by the Korean Embassy/consulate in Canada.

Then you need to consider the consular interview in your home country (as required by all new E2 applicants (those who have not previously held an E2 in Korea)).

Might be faster and easier to fly back to Canada to get it all done (by about 4 months faster). The air ticket may be expensive but so is sitting around not working for 4 months while you wait for the paperwork to get done (assuming they don't make you fly back for the consular interview).

Thanks for the quick reply. I appreciate it.

Unfortunately, 4 months in not acceptable. I am on leave from my job in Ottawa for the next 14 months, and if I took a 12 month contract in Korea, that would give me exactly 2 months to get all of this done.

I guess I should look at the flying back option then.

Regards,
Matthew
