Hey guys,

Just had a change in plans for the holiday and headed to Seoul now from Busan. I figure a lot of stuff will be closed. I'm wondering if there's anything special event-ish or a festival happening to check out?? I've done a bit of hunting around and didn't see much going on. Hmmm...what to do...

as has been said, Chuseok in Seoul is quiet and dead time in Seoul. Much of Korea for that matter. If you are looking for street parades and dancing in the streets you are not going to get it. It will be a nice and quiet time to do some of the touristy stuff like palaces and museums as well as checking out Namsan Tower at night. I did the DMZ tour last year for Chuseok and that was well worth it.

Sounds like a great time to hike mountains, drink, camp out, dress like a country bumpkin, and try to catch American bass at a lake. I'm looking forward to the break. Probably best to stock up now on cash, beer, food, and other kwap you think your going to need as the ATM's and markets may become rather limited.

Are hotels and motels discounted during Chuseok since most people are staying with family?

There's a DMZ tour running during Chuseok? Which one?

I spent a little time Googling and surfing the Korea and Seoul tourist sites, as I'm also going to be kicking around Seoul this Chuseok.

There are probably going to be some events around the major palaces in Seoul, but I couldn't find anything specific. Last year the palaces were actually quite busy, as there were many tourists and Koreans with the day off whose grandparents live in Seoul...

Here's some stuff I found that I'm considering doing. You can find more info using some web searches:

Seoul Design Fair 2010 is having some Chuseok-related hands-on events (Bibimbap making, and it looks like on Thursday there may be some Makkeolli making!)

Drum Festival at Seoul Forest

A big fair and concerts at Seoul Plaza, in front of City Hall

Have a good Chuseok, everyone!

Thanks for the info!! I might check out the Seoul plaza jam.

I checked more into the DMZ tours...some of the 3rd tunnel tours are available during Chu-seok with selected companies. However, the full day tours, and those including Panmunjeon didn't seem to be offered. Hope that helps!!

I'd be interested in all of these events. Particularly the makkeolli making. Very Happy

Can you post more information or links to the websites please?

Hey Guys. I'm an EPIK teacher from Pohang. Its my last day today before the long Chuseok holiday tomorrow. I've decided to go to Seoul tomorrow. Never been there before. Wouldn't mind hooking up for a chill session or something. Just reply to this thread or give me a prvt msg. Smile
