With the new E-2 visa regulations coming into force, does anyone know if we need the RCMP background check.
My contract ends March 11th next year and I want to renew. The RCMP check apparently takes 4 months to get, which gives me a little over 5 months to get fingerprints, submit them, hope there are no delays, and then get the document mailed back to Korea.
This is a huge inconvenience, any screw up and it comes late. I would prefer to get a CPIC check from the Ontario Provincial Police, I can have it in a week. It's a national check (CPIC) but I'm scared to gamble on whether it will be accepted by Korean immigration as it's not issued by the 'national' government of Canada. |

Hi Guys,
To the best of my knowledge, one of the reasons for changing the US requirement (going from local to state, and then state to FBI) is a result of a slight difference in the way the criminal background checks work.
In the United States, a State Level Check is good for that State, and does not check the National database. So, if you have a record in Nevada, it won't show up in a State level check in Minnesota.
You can see how this could cause problems, and this is why there has been a change to the FBI level check as of January 1st, 2011.
In Canada, from what I understand, all record checks are checks of the national database. So if you get a check from the province of Ontario, it will check the same database as a record check from BC. As a result, you can probably get away with a check from your region.
However - why risk it? Get the RCMP check so that you are in the clear with no worries. Visa regulations, and EPIK regulations change quickly, and teachers are not often given a "grace period," so it is in your best interests to play the game smart. Go RCMP.
