This is my first post on Dave's, so please be gentle (maybe a red flag to attack). I am in the tediously long wait to get all the new documents before looking for a job in Korea. I've taught there before and grew quit fond of their drinking culture, so much so, that I carried it over here to the states. After three years, I have still been fond of drinking (about 4 times a week). I have stopped for now and been trying to heal my liver.

So, to my question, anybody had any trouble with drinking and then taking the Health Exam? How serious are they about your liver (minus Hep, that's no fun)?

The liver test is to determine if you may have Hep. High levels on the liver test can indicate damage from Hep or excessive drinking. If it's from drinking, put the bottle down for a week and get re-tested. If the levels were elevated from the extra work your liver did processing the booze, they will drop on the second test. If they don't go down, youll be requested to take a Hep test and then sent home if youre positive for that.

The Hep portions of the health exam are tests for the anti-bodies to see which of the various versions of Hep you may have been vaccinated for and if they are still effective. It's the liver test that raises the flag for infection.

They'll tell you that you have fatty liver. Compared to an Asian, you probably do.

I knew a guy who had a messed up liver that showed up on the health test. I believe that it was alcoholic hepatitis. They just gave him some liver pills. This guy told me that he sometimes had 5 or 6 beers before teaching class in the afternoon haha!
