I have lived in Korea before as a part of a homestay exchange program for about 8 months and I absolutely loved it! I have a lot of friends from university there too and it's pretty much been my dream to live/work there. I am majoring in English and minoring in Linguistics (I'm a junior) and I plan on getting my masters in a TESOL with a joint degree with Hanyang Dae..

But! There is a big issue. I ended up getting pregnant with my ex boyfriend who, ironically is Korean and in the process of getting a green card to stay here in America. She's only a newborn now and will only be 3 or 4 when I go to Korea. I do have a lot of family friends in Korea and people who could take care of her during the day and could provide childcare until she's ready for school.

I know it's a big stigma in Korea to be a single mom and that it might be harder to get a job.

Has any single parent been able to find a job? I will be well qualified and dedicated and this really is my dream... and I really haven't planned much beyond it. So I really want to know if this seem like I'm being too naive or if it could really be a real possibility?

You'd face a different set of challenges from most teachers here but your plan is definitely workable. Best luck.

I heard that sometimes hogwan owners really like the idea of a teacher having a kindergarten aged child that the pupils can play with, but your child will be really young... Still, I don't think your being a mom will be a huge problem, especially if your logisticals are covered (child care). If you want to say you're married or engaged, I don't think anybody would question it, but if you're just "single", that's probably ok too
