Those who follow my posts or who care would know that I have been looking for work in Korea for about a month now. Some of you might say," How is that possible? I had a job in a week." Well, to be honest, if I didn't give a rip what kind of job it was I could be working at a kindie hagwan by now. But that's just it, I've done the crappy hagwan thing and I don't ever want to do it again. I have been trying to get in with an adult hagwan, and have been turned away every time............. except for this one place.
They didn't say no, they didn't say yes, they said maybe??
They want me to do a month of trial teaching, after which they will decide whether or not they would hire me. So, I agreed asking how much I would be paid for that month. They told me and I accepted what they offered.......... but they still won't give me a definate answer or a start date. It was last Monday that I went for an interview, and I have been passing up other job offers (with kid's schools) because I really don't want to teach kids again.
This is driving me nuts. How much longer should I put up with this?
I have a sneaking suspicion that they are trying to hold out for another teacher (younger - better looking) so they may just make me wait and in the end say, "We found someone else".
Arghhh!!!!!!!!!!! |

One thing i never do anymore is to get duped into the "trial period" game.
They should either say a clear "yes" or "no" at interview stage. i can't live in uncertainty, or constantly try to impress on a daily basis.
After your probationary period is up, they will either
a) extend it indefinitely until they find some blonde, blue eyed American to replace you;
b) Not pay you and say bye- bye.
c) shift the goal posts, and demand more of you for the same money, all the while dangling the carrot..."We've almost decided to keep you, but we need more time'.
Well, you're in it now...but give them a deadline to positively accept you, or pay you in full and say goodbye. |

Thanks for the input, but no, I'm not really in yet. I still haven't even started.
If they try and pull any of the stunts you mentioned, I will be gone the next day, most likely without pay.
If that's the best I can get here, I may as well just move on. |
