Didn't think Koreans were employing Oirish to teach English in Korea. |

Just go into your local Garda station and ask for one. You will need two forms of identification. |

The Irish are everywhere here... I work with at least 1, and I'm friends with more Irish people than any other. And I'm not even that popular. The ratio between Koreans and Irish people here is somewhere around 70/30. I think you know which the 70 is. |

These comments are getting really boring now.
Anyway to answer the OP just an official letter from your local garda station. |

Went to the local garda station and they said I'd have to go to Thurles to get it done, just wondering has anyone else got it done down there or is there an easier way? |

You don't need the 1 from Thurles.
There are two types of Criminal Background Check. One of them takes about a week to get from your local station and is free. The other takes over a month and costs money. You want the free one. I think it's called a Police Clearance Certificate.
Bring your passport to your local station. Tell them you want the background check that only takes a few days, NOT the Thurles one. They will take down your info, photocopy your passport and send it out to you a week later, stamped and signed by the local Superintendent.
Just make sure to insist that you only need the free one. |

We had to write a letter with all our former addresses and workplaces and sent it to the local Garda Superintendant.
Just send a cover letter with it stating that you want a Garda cert of character - apparently this title is important so you dont get Thurles!
Ring your local Garda station ahead and double check first but we got ours about 3 weeks ago and that's how.
It takes about two weeks depending on how many addresses! You may want to ask for two because the DFA wont apostille a copy and you might need one!
Good luck!
