Who was the most undeserving Nobel Laureate?

Mother Teresa was a tyrant in the Church who was no hard on nuns that several left because of her dogmatic "God told me it had to be this way!" dictorial style that sowed much dissent within the Church. I wrote a properly cited ten page report on it back in university. It's amazing how much reality diverges from the legend. The Nobel Peace Prize? he my have been good activist for the poor but she sure didn't contribute to world peace.

I am glad to see people voting and also the varied opinions. I voted for Arafat, and I am surprised I am the only one so far.

Honestly, undeserving is undeserving, but I still cast a vote.

Most were controversial (and thus debatable) for their actions; Obama, however, was controversial for his complete inaction.

i don't see why anyone would vote kim dae-jung as undeserving. regardless of what you think of his politics, he was jailed, almost drowned, sentenced to death, and later forgave the people who did those things to him.
maybe other winners are more deserving, who knows. but clearly he's a different kettle of fish to everyone else on that list.

He was not awarded the prize for the reasons you listed. He was awarded for the Summit Meeting, which he paid to make it happen.

I think he was very undeserving, but I didn't vote for him.

Obama didn't deserve it, but I'l go with Milton Friedman. Evil I-will-get-banned-for-calling-him-what-he-deserves kinda dude.

What also has to be noted is that Kissinger and Arafat were joint rewarded with their counterpart. So both Kissinger and Tho as well as Arafat, Peres and Rabin.

I'd say Kissinger and Tho is the most blatant.

Ja, true. But the OP just said laureates, so I'm sticking with my answer (though will perhaps read more carefully the next time I post at the end of the day). Besides, thousands were "disappeared" so that totalitarian regimes could enact Friedman's policies.

As for Obama, I really don't even know how they could justify giving it to him in the first place, and perhaps they should have stripped him of it afterwards. But truth be told, there are people in that list that I don't feel qualified to discuss, so I can't say if they were less deserving than he.

The man who wasn't there basically. Not super bad, not super good just a lot of expectation and hype and then ' '.

Kissinger and Arafat. Arafat was a soldier and Kissinger a cold warriot who met a war he couldnt love. Neither were big advocates of peace.

Obama and Gore just names.

Milton Friedman never made any policies! He never disappeared or advocated disappearing anyone. He worked as a consultant with several different governments.

Mother Teresa was an outstanding advocate for the poor, but from what I have read not a real nice person.
