this may seem like an obvious question, and i've seen several scattered answers, but they have all been in techno-speak i'm not really familiar with.
could someone give me some layperson's info on region differences as far as dvds, games, etc. for example, i have many dvds and several xbox games that i would like to bring. i'm not really that worried about the dvds because i can play them on my computer, but i'm guessing korea isn't the same region classification? my main question is whether i should get an xbox here or there (i've been using my roommates until now). would i be able to use my games if i got one there? would a us xbox work with korean tvs? are games playable on a us xbox readily available in korea? or is there even a difference?
and of course, this doesn't just go for xbox, but any electronics of the sort. any game system, dvd player, bluray, etc. |

Okay, I'm gonna give this a go as no one else has yet. However, you can't let your head explode over a couple of terms, okay?

...so much for that quote, as most homes in South Korea have 220V outlets for their 60Hz TVs.

Just forget about PAL and the other game consoles, okay? Just stick to NTSC and either an American xbox360(I believe you meant 360, right?) or a Korean one.
You'll be able to play your American DVDs on a 360 console bought here. Downloaded movies(divx) are a different story. [Don't know much about the PS3 other than the games are region-free and the DVDs are region-locked(maybe 3 for Korean PS3s and 1 for American ones?) while blue-rays are maybe the same for both Korea and America.] So, all of your movies will work either on an American 360 you bring here or a Korean 360 you buy here.
Check on play-asia first to see if the majority of your 360 games are playable on an NTSC-J system. If the answer is yes, buy your 360 here. It'll save you having to lug it over here and also the trouble of finding a step-down transformer or Korean power brick/cord.

See all the question marks? Even the game sellers don't know what the hey is going on with the 360 games...  People who made the damn games probably don't either.
If you're a big fan of EA hockey other than NHL 07(which is available for NTSC-J/KOR) or some fancy, obscure footy game, you may want to reconsider what I recommended.
You may also want to consider prices(just remember that you'll have to buy a step-down transformer or korean 360 power brick/cord if you choose to purchase in America)...
