DISCLAIMER: THIS IS MY EXPERIENCE ONLY. I AM NOT TRYING TO BE A RUMORMONGER
My employer is filing my Extension of Sojourn application without the FBI CBC. She called Daegu immigration and was told that we can file the apostilled FBI criminal check within a few months of my new contract date. My alien resident card expires on February 21, and we were told that it will be extended for one year with our submittal of all the other documents (most importantly - the new signed contract, the letter of sponsorship and the apostilled university diploma). My FBI check should arrive very soon, but possibly not before February 21. Daegu immigration was clear that for me in this situation in this province, the application will be processed without the FBI check in the document package.
If you are stressing about this, have your employer call your immigration branch and ask about it. If you don't have your apostilled university degree, get on it today - it can be here within 3 weeks, depending how fast your university notarizes and authenticates it and the Secretary of State of your university apostilles it.
