What would have been your alternate career field? |

Coming to Korea changed my life.
I can only imagine disaster if I had stayed in Canada.
I have a beautiful wife and two beautiful daughters whom I am sure I would never had in Canada. I would never see what I see everyday when I wake up in the morning if I had not come to Korea in teach English.
I consider myself lucky in many ways. |

Only if you count starting a family, something anyone can do, a good thing. If you didn't see it, you wouldn't miss it. |

Right before I came to Korea, I turned down a job at the VA as a counseling assistant working with ex-GI's. Sometimes I wish I'd have taken that job. But I wanted to travel............... |

Teaching high school English. In fact, that WAS what I was doing in the US, and will be when I go back (assuming I can find a district that is hiring anything close to the step I would be at...). |

Probably working a low-end assistant managerial type position at a bank while my husband completed culinary arts school.
One of the big issues I had before coming was not knowing what I wanted to do with my life or a degree in Communications.
Now I have some direction and will probably find an ill-paying job at a yuppie/middle class liberal private kindergarten/Montessori school upon my return. |

Still slaving at Toilette and Douche (Deloitte) as a staff accountant wanting to slit my wrists everyday. No regrets about quitting and doing what I am doing now that is for sure. I thank my lucky stars that I can do this job and it is so easy. |

Ditto: teaching high school back home.
My placement got screwed up 10 years ago, and I was put into an ESL classroom. Never looked back. ^^
It's worked out quite well. Way less stress, way more dough, way more professional satisfaction.
(clarification: not teaching in the public system in korea) |

SAP / ERP consulting and teaching 1st/2nd year comp sci / business /economics courses at a community college.
Now I get to sing, dance and play games all day. Definitely a step up.
