Does anyone do their banking through int'l banks such as Citibank/HSBC? Seems like mostly everyone here has an account with a Korean bank. Any advantage?

Even the international banks operate at arm's length from their off-shore counterparts. They are no different than the Korean domestic banks in regards to retail banking (general consumer services).
The advantage to using a Korean domestic bank is that they have a branch on just about every street corner so you aren't incurring extra/excess ATM fees using your card at the wrong branch.
2nd, your employer will use a Korean bank and will probably want you to use the same bank for your salary deposits.

use KEB bank. there's a thread about it somewhere on here and it's great if you want to send money back and forth to your home account.

I recommend you use Shinhan Bank. They have a special branch that offers banking EXCLUSIVELY for foreigners! It's called the Shinhan Bank Seoul Global Center - located in the Seoul Finance Center downtown between Gwanghwamun and City Hall. The staff speak English and their service is amazing. They offer about 4 different credit cards with all statements and info in English. The number is 02-773-3131.
