You can most likely find it in Itaewon. If you can't, you can certainly find it in Ansan's Little Asia.

Department stores will have it too. I saw it in the basement of a Hyundai department store on sale a couple of weeks ago.

There's usually a group of Asia Marts around long distance bus stations (in bigger cities). They have large red and yellow signs - and they usually advertise international phone cards posters in their windows.

These shops have lots of interesting food from China, India, Pakistan and South East Asia.

Coconut milk is 2,500 won (ouch) for a 400 grm tin. I use coconut powder (mix with hot water) at 2,500 won (but it doesn't taste as good).

Enjoy.

There are a bunch of Filipino markets across from the station. I'd imagine you could find something there, or at least have someone point you in the right direction.

You know there are different version of this. First there's the 'water' from a ripe coconut. Then there's the milky water from a green coconut--not ripe yet. Then there's a thicker milky stuff also in a can that has some green coconut itself ground up in it. Very tasty. Great in Indian cooking, curries, etc. Use a couple tablespoons to steam your rice.

The alternative is to buy a whole coconut and the water/milk. Grind up your own milk with the soft stuff you can scrape away. Then chip up the rest to munch on or grate on top of your curry. Mix grated coconut with beaten egg whites and sugar to make macaroons if you have an oven to bake in. It toasts up nice and crunchy too.

Just be sure you have a hammer and a long nail to drain and open it with. And shake that coconut at the stand to be sure it has liquid in it. It's delicious ice cold straight out of the nut, just stick a straw too. But then you don't have the water to cook with. So buy two!

If you do find the stuff in a can, here's a sauce from the Spice Goddess to die for...

And a coconut soup with peas and tofu...

That's easy, just blend some fresh coconut with water. wa la

Coriander and fennel are the spices that Roger Mooking uses on his island style rice. He's using canned coconut milk. Serving it with cashew papaya-glazed chicken. wowsers

E-Mart has it. Now if someone could tell me where I can buy coconut oil, I'd be a happy man.

You can buy coconut milk (tins) and powder (packets) at the asia marts on a side road around the Busan long distance bus station. Just google asia mart - busan. That's how we found the asia marts in busan.

Yes. Also, thanks to everyone for the input. I'll be sure to check out Shinesegae and Home Plus. Kikomom, i'll definitely have to try that someday. From your experience, it seems like something to die for!
