I'm planning on teaching in S Korea in December on an E-2 Visa. My partner isn't planning on getting the E-2 visa, but instead wants to come over on a tourist visa and decide if he wants to stay.

My question is: Can he stay for many months on the tourist visa? Will he be questioned if he leaves after 90 days and returns? Is it easy to get a multiple entry visa and what is required for that?

Thank you!

Can he get a multi-entry visa = no, not as a tourist.

Can he stay for 90 days, leave and return = yes.

Can he do it repeatedly = yes BUT
1) he may be required to show passage out of Korea before the airline allows him to board the flight to Korea.
2) immigration may want to know how he is supporting himself (proof of funds and accommodation). IF he is staying with you and you are supporting him that would be considered adequate.

Any ideas for how we can get housing together. We have some savings and are willing to pay more monthly.

Everyone says finding our own place is crazy. My school will give me a place to live, but for him as well. Can I pay more to have enough space for both of us?

If you want your own place, your school will give you a housing allowance. Usually 300,000-400,000W per month.

You'll have to put down key money, which will likely run anywhere from 5 million to 20 million depending on where you live.

It is extremely unlikely that your school would give you a place big enough for 2 people.

IF you are your "guest" are sharing a bed together they the standard "one-room" villa is adequate albeit not roomy for a couple. It would be like living in a "kitchenette" motel for a while.

IF you are NOT sharing a bed then your "guest" has substantially fewer options for a long term stay in Korea.

We will be sharing a bed.

So what's the verdict? Should we brave getting our own place and paying the key money or just stay in a small space not meant for two. Are schools okay with having someone there with me?

Your school won't care.

Being "brave" is not brave, just foolish.

If you and your partner can live in a kitchenette then you are fine.

If not, then Korea is not the place for you. Even couples housing is TINY compared to what you are used to unless you are prepared to plunk down $100k for deposit and $1000 per month for rent (for a nice 3 bedroom apartment). You can rest assured that your school won't.

Just go with the flow, get used to the country first and THEN if your guest ends up staying longer, look into housing options.

At the moment you are putting the cart before the horse.

Thanks for the info. I don't need much space. I just wanted to be sure there would be a bed for both of us to fit on.
