Here's a question for any regular travelers...

My US passport is getting rather full. It expires in 2012, so I'm hesitant to add extra pages; I'd rather just apply for a renewal next year.

I'm traveling to Phuket for Christmas; I'm not sure whether Thai immigration uses a full-page sticker or a little ink stamp? Page 19 has two little stamps from China and plenty of space remaining (I figure Korean immigration can use that for my exit/entry at Incheon). Pages 20-21 are completely blank. That should be sufficient--right?

Thai Immi just uses ink stamps. I hate those big stickers some countries use. And if they see you're short on pages, most will put 2 stamps in one box to save you space. However, the back pages (assuming you have an American passport) aren't supposed to be used for standard entrance and exit stamps. Usually they are for extensions and special visas. Maybe you'll get a cool immigration officer that will use that, but he's not supposed to.

Just bite the bullet and add some pages. It was only like 20 or 30 bucks when I did it and it takes a day or two. You can do it this week and have peace of mind about it.

Oh wait... I just remembered... Thailand and most other countries require your passport to have 6 months validity on it before they grant you a visa anyways. You might want to check if you're passport will have 6 months left after the date of your return ticket. You may have to get a new one or postpone you Phuket trip anyways.

Adding pages would be the best, but recently the US dramatically increased the price of this service (its definitely not $20-$30, I think closer to $80!)

With the ink stamps they generally will put it wherever, even if that means there are three stamps in one of the little quadrants. You're fine going to Thailand.
