Hey guys. It appears that Geumjeong SLP will be offering me a contract in the next few days, and I am wondering if anyone has any experience with this particular school. I was only able to find a couple of reviews online, and both were bad, but in my experience, most reviews I read online tend to be bad. I also saw somewhere on this board that I'd be better off taking a job scrubbing toilets than working at this school, but it didn't explain why.
I know everyone stresses reading the contract, and I have every intention of doing so, but contracts don't describe work environment, general atmosphere, housing, etc.
Fortunately for me, I have the option of either signing this contract, or continuing ahead with my EPIK application while applying for other private schools on the side with various recruiters.
Thank you in advance for any advice you might offer :] |

Best bit of advice really is READ THE DAMNED CONTRACT or take a look at the contract sticky forum and see why they regularly get ripped.
Be aware that you will work 5 hours MORE per week than the next guy for the same money. (that works out to 250 more hours per year or 5 million won in lost wages).
How does that work? Most hagwans schedule you for 30 classes of 50 minutes per week (1500 contact minutes). At SLP you will be contracted for 21-22 classes of 80 minutes (with a 10 minute mid-class break that you remain in the classroom for). This means you work 1890 contact minutes for the same money (300+ more per week (5 hours)).
Then you can discuss holiday breaks, overtime (or lack thereof), NOT being enrolled in NPS or NHIC (I have NEVER met a SLP worker who had his NHIC card; and I have met hundreds of them over the last 10 years).
SLP = slave labor program.
