I am teaching a very low level elementary class. They barely speak English and can't read very well either. I am tired of teaching vocab and then doing a picture walk through before I read each book. The vocab part is necessary, but I'm bored of doing picture walkthroughs. Any ideas?
I usually do one class as a prereading class (learn vocab, look at the pictures and talk about what is happening) The next class I read the story twice to them, and then read a line and have them repeat. Then we do some kind of game/activity. Then the third class, the students go around and read the story as a group after practicing and listening to a CD at home. We review the vocab and do another activity to finish the class.
Any ideas on a prereading activity? |
