I bought a camera in Korea - a NIKON Coolpix s220 and its basically totally useless. All the shots of people I take are completely out of focus and any shots of sights and scenery need to be taken by a really steady hand.
Should I order a camera secondhand from amazon UK?
Or would it be cheaper to buy another one in Korea?
All I want is a camera that will take good quality photos and myabe have a video option as well. I don't really want to spend more than 160K - 200k won
Dont buy a NIKON Coolpix s220 - you might as well just rely on visual memory |

First, do you know how to use the camera? Not wanting to sound like a dick or anything, but make sure you've read the manual and know how to adjust the settings on the camera. Lots of peoples problems can be traced back to camera settings and lack of knowledge.
That being said, I've read a bit about the S220 and it seems like it does have a lot of bad reviews. It's definitely not the worst reviewed camera I've read about it, but it looks like it could use some help.
Personally, I've owned a Kodak M1033 and a Canon G9. The Kodak was a great camera, took some awesome photos with it, but the battery life was terrible. I dropped it in a lake in Minnesota this summer, but still miss having it. The G9 is too bulky to be a pocket camera, but I'd go with a Canon for my next pocket camera. They take great shots, the battery life is decent, you can tweak a lot of settings from the factory and there is an active hackers group (CHDK) for expanding the usefulness of the Canon.
If I were you, I'd go the Canon A series route (all under 200 bucks, some as low as 109) or fork over a bit more (179-349) for the SD series. Digital cameras are constantly improving, but you spend a bit more today, treat it right, that Canon will last you ten years, no problem.
Just my two cents. |

Thanks. I was thinking a Canon would be a good idea.
Does anyone from the uk know if Korean prices for cameras are considerably lower?
I'd probably buy secondhand if I was still there and it seems I'd actually save if I did that. |
