I was just asked by a K teacher what the correct answer for the following gap fill exercise might be.
"...an___________ boy." the answer she beleives is "eighteen-month-old". I'm not sure of the use of both hyphens though. Can anyone help me out on this one please?

Your K teacher is correct. The only instance in which you don't hyphenate age is when it acts as an adjective that stands alone (forgot the correct term) - but it goes like this:
Her youngest is an eighteen-month-old boy.
vs.
Her youngest boy is eighteen months old. |
