So I was offered a contract for a private school, and one of the things that was discussed with me through the whole process about the school is that I would have to travel between two campuses, which are about 5-10 minutes apart by bus, and 20-25 minutes by walking (what the current teacher there told me).
The teacher told me he usually takes a bus or cab when going between campuses, but I would probably prefer to walk. My question though is that I believe it assumed that I would need to take some transportation to get there, so is this reason to ask for a little more in salary? The city is Yangsan, so I understand they have pretty good public transportation, but does anybody have an idea of how much it costs for buses, etc? Like is it very minimal cost for a bus where it wouldn't be worth making a fuss? If you have any advice, it be appreciated.
Also, I was wondering what people think about being the only foreign teacher at a school. I would be the only foreign teacher at this position, and I wonder if its harder this way to meet people. Any input on the matter would be appreciated, along with if anybody currently lives in Yangsan or has and can give me any info on it.
Thanks for the help! |

Ask for bus money and you may get it (private school). However, you probably won't get it if you don't ask.
1,000 X twice daily = 2,000 won per day X 20 days teaching = 40,000 won per month X 12 = 480,000 per year. I'd be asking.
Also, walking is fine in spring and fall - but if you walk in summer you will arrive in class a dripping mass of sweat. The humidity here will just drench you. I'd plan on taking the bus in summer - and maybe in winter, too.
Good luck. |
