Does having a mirror in the elementary school classroom legitimize vanity? My students check seem to themselves out quite frequently.

Blame the parents for that. Never seen so many kindy kids with dyed hair/perms and knockoff designer kit in my life.
No, Elementary classes should not have mirrors for that purpose. I think it's shite to promote those kind of values, but what can you do.

I had a friend who worked in a girl's high school and she had banned mirrors in class. One day she saw a girl with a mirror and took it away. 3 minutes later she had another mirror, so when confronted, the girl said, "But I must look at my face, it is so beautiful" Rolling Eyes

Korean media promotes gayness among men. Check out the way their male singers and actors dress and look.

Blame it on the media. Razz

I think there shouldn't be mirrors in ANY classroom. Elementary school, middle school, high school or even university. What is the point of having mirrors in the classroom?

I'm teaching at an elementary school right now and we have a mirror in our classroom. The funny thing is that the only person who uses it is my co-teacher. Unfortunately, she is often busy looking at herself in the mirror when I need her help with the students.

I love the mirrors in the classrooms. Unfortunately my English room doesn't have a mirror so I just use the glossy reflection on the big TV instead.

Not if I'm in there there shouldn't be. I'd be so busy looking at myself (to see how bad my hangover shows) that not much teaching would ever get done!

A student spent the first 20 minutes of class going over their face with half a dozen oil blotting sheets this morning.

He was a boy in Grade 3 elementary.

I like having a mirror in my room. Gotta make sure I washed my face properly.

Is teaching children about taking care of their appearance a bad thing? I agree that it's encouraging vanity, but I'm not sure that Korea's obsession with looking clean and put-together is really a bad thing.

I don't know how I feel about the fact that I just wrote that.

Are you sure the mirror isn't one of those two-way types you see in cop dramas?

An obsession is not a "bad thing"?
