How much tax have I been paying working at a public school? I've been here 12 months and I'm a UK national on 2m won a month......
No one has been able to give me even a ball park figure. My school said 12k won a month but the online calculator on the tax website is confusing and puts the amount way higher. I heard it was 6-35per cent which would mean a lot of money after a year.........
Anyway, my school won't let me have a refund even if I can get hold of the residency certificate in time before leaving. They say I should have got it before my first paycheck |

On 2 million you would have been at about 1.6% of your monthly salary (including the inhabitants tax) assuming you have no (legal) dependents here in Korea.
If you wanted the tax free status for your 1st two years you would have had to do it (file the paperwork) BEFORE your first pay.

to be safe, get your earnings statement from your school each month.
And get your co-teacher to explain the deductions |

My co-teacher just told me that income tax last year was 16% so should be around that again. I'm thinking I'll just pay it rather than deal with the Inland Revenue. |

Jodavid - If youre from the uk u need a residency certificate and technically you should hand it to them before your first pay check. You should try and call your local tax office on skype.
I think this number should work
+441512102222 -- open 8am to 5pm Mon to Fri Uk time. Youll need your NI number
BUT Theyre useless so dont bank on them bothering to do anything |
