Man those Rascals have some punch.
I wonder what song you'd put to this video?
I'm thinking some sort of bluegrassy banjo-fiddle type deal.
If you notice the reflection on the elevator surface it seems like the bystanders are totally unmoved by this breakdown. |

Only in Korea. This is the kind of stuff the Korean tourist industry should be advertising, because it is absolutely priceless.
BTW, anyone know how to make that into an animated avatar? |

This kind of thing is one of the reasons I wanted to live in Korea. It's an insane country full of... this. Never a dull moment. |

Indeed! And elevator adventures are a whole class of their own. Spit on elevator floors, the constant blockage of those waiting to go in of those trying to get out, etc. |

Precisely. The old women beating up the kid on the subway, this disabled fella ram-raiding an elevator, politicians scuffling in parliament. These moments are what Korea is all about. Completely mental. |

I don't understand the Korean attitude towards stairs and elevators. The same people will climb a mountain for 3 hours but they'll refuse to walk 2 flights of stairs. I saw one guy wait several minutes for the elevator to come all the way from the 30th floor to the 1st floor, just so he could go the 2nd floor. |

You know, the guy did actually die...
and these elevators, well, they should have doors stronger than those.
The guy was obviously ill in the head and died a brutal, painful death at the bottom of an elevator shaft.
Brutal. Painful. Excruciating. Alone.
Nothing to laugh at here, folks. |

Look to the right and you see the street one short floor down, and the elevator went down, so he landed on top of the elevator, maybe a two meter fall.

I can't find any newspaper articles on this, just more links to videos and some informal accounts. From what I've found, the man did actually die. It may have been a short fall, but he did go headfirst down an elevator shaft and his motorized chair could have landed on top of him. Sounds like a bad way to go, to me. I agree, those doors should have been stronger. Makes me wonder, though, if this man had some sort of mental disability that made him unable to consider the consequences of ramming his scooter through an elevator door. Maybe someone should have been with him? |

Suicidal rage is more common that you think, or at least fits of anger where one acts on impulse without regard in the heat of the moment for the consequences.
I do feel sorry for the handicapped in Korea. My students tell me there is a stigma and lack of support and I'm sure life is harder here for them than back home. |
