What sort of salary could I expect/demand with a PhD in English, 3 years ESL teaching experience (2 in Turkey, 1 in Korea), and 6 years of English Composition teaching experience in the USA? |

I would say in the region of 3million won per year give or take. If you were unlucky you might get 2.5 million. If you are lucky 4-5 million including overtime. |

Usually the same as all native speakers even if they just have a BA in an unrelated field and little or no experience. At most, 1,000,000 won more a year that the ones who do not have a Phd. I have a PhD and have been in both situations. |

PhD's do not command high salaries in korea. Many have tried it and are disappointed.
I know a PhD holder from Harvard...and is paid 3 million Won a month, plus housing for teaching 12 50 minute classes a week at a university.
And I know a few BA holders who are paid more...of course they teach 20 50 minute classes week.
One has to network, make connections, etc. and hope to get some doors open. |

A lot of a PhD's salary in Korea comes from publications. Every time you get an article in a certain peer-reviewed journal then you get paid so much. Varies per university. |

There are a few really well-paid 'real' lecturing positions for vocational subjects available at some uni departments here. But, well, alas a PhD in English, sadly often has little worth here other than it means that you have just studied for longer than the average bod. Unless you have published works, as other posters have said, you aren't necessarily going to fare much better than the newbies. They can play the edutainment game just as well as a doctorate for a similar price.
Check out Chronicle of Higher Education jobs to compare the going rates for PhD holders in current uni vacancies across different countries. Taiwan, Hong Kong and Singapore are just a few places in Asia that will offer you better returns financially for your qualifications. |

Should definitely look at china. Nanjing universities were advertising for P.H.D. s and were paying up to a million Rmb per year in some fields. |
