My visa expires on the 16th but I leave Korea on the 17th. Do I need to go and see the retards at Korean Immigration in order to avoid a fine? Or will they use common sense (for quite possibly, the first time?)
Would be grateful for any help here. |

| If your E2 (or other visa type I guess) is ending you can register at hikorea.go.kr and get a 30 day tourist extension. all done by web, doesn't take long and they confirm quickly. need to provide a scan of your onward ticket / confirmation, if it's an e-ticket you can take a screenshot and send that. you print out the certificate at the end and hand it in with your (expired) ARC at the immi booth upon departure. |

Your visa expires or your ARC expires?
You MUST be out by midnight of the last date indicated on your ARC (not your visa) or you will be considered to be in an overstay position and subject to any of:
Delay at the airport,
black mark in your immigration file (complicating any future work visa applications)
fine (100k is common) and/or detention if you fail to pay the fine.
The alternative is to apply for (and receive) a short extension to your stay. It is free and you only need to show your ticket out, ARC and passport.
You can get the extension at your local immigration office or you can do it on-line if you have the means to scan/email or fax your documents to them.

No, it doesnt say that. It says from now on, visas are being issued for 13 months.
Get it through your head, people -- the expiry date on your ARC is the only date that matters at the end of a contract.
Handing in a stale ARC (even by one day) when you fly out is a recipe for headaches. |

| I just overstayed mine by a day last week. I had to go to the immigration office inside the airport. They took my arc, did some paper work and stamped something in my passport and sent me on my way. No fine. Just make sure you give yourself an extra 20 minutes before your flight. |

The complications will arise when you try to get a new E2.
That one day of overstay and 20 extra minutes in the immigration office can mean that your future visa runs will now be made to your home country instead of Japan.

i had no problems, i taught here for one year, left to teach for china for a year, re-applied to korea the year after with no problems. |
