Has anyone recently, within the last 3-4 years cashed in on a Korean Air upgrade for a flight between Korea and the states?

I'm confused about which ticket class I've got to buy before they're let me upgrade. Their redemption chart says this:

Fares not eligible for Mileage Upgrade are as follows :
- Award ticktets
- Discounted tickets (50% or more)
- X,G (Group tickets)
- B, E, H, T, L, N, Q, V (Special Promotional fare)
- O(*), Z
(*) Upgrade Awards eligible in case of O class on Korea Domestic flight

But to make it more confusing pretty much every other airline says anything that "Restricted Economy", Class M can't be upgraded. That's the 2nd cheapest at $2000. The next step up to Class Y Unrestricted Economy is $4,000

I can't answer your question but I sympathise as I had similar trouble trying to work out another Skypass miles redemption related issue. Korean Air's websites (both in English and Korean) were either very confusingly worded, self contradictory or sometimes both.

Your best bet is just to call them and ask directly.
