A guy was selling 4 apples for 5000 won out of a truck. I offered him 4000 and he would only sell me 3 for that price, then I walked into Lotte and they were selling 4 apples for 3900 won, which is still too much.

Ripped off ? everyday I buy anything. everything is over priced.
but what I hate the most is clubs. Come on these bars which raise the price to just think they are cool, like expensive drinks is suppose to mean the cooler club. Please! no club in Seoul is that cool.

Surely some of you remember England...?

Everything is too expensive here? For the first few months I was walking around like 'This can't actually be this cheap, someone must have tagged it wrong'.

I pay twice that for a bottle of coke in England. Bills are basically nothing, Bottled water is as cheap as tap water, etc etc.

However electronics are generally overpriced, I've found.
It took 45 minutes of haggling to get 100k off a laptop for a friend, which was still above the price I'd have expected.

yes i agree. Everything, for most part is way overpriced. I just cant see how many people working minimum wage (around 4k won) can survive. Can we at least put to bed the notion that the cost of living is cheap in Korea like i heard so many times before i got here?

It's a rip off compared to China, and others, That's all I'll agree with. But then you earn less there. Unless you go Shanghai or something, where the cost rises to match.

Call BS if you want, I'm actually just guessing here.

Paid more to get a flu shot at a clinic in Itaewon than a local clinic. I guess it's the English convenience surcharge.

Paid several hundred thousand won more for dental work at Hu's Hu than I was quoted.

Paid 50k won/month at my current gym when I could pay 35k won/month at the new gym that just opened.

I've spoken to bar owners who say that high drink prices tend to keep out the riff raft. In Korea you can be fussy about the customers you want and still make big bank.

Here's another angle on that idea.

Stupid is good because stupid keeps paying.
