okay. just as the title says, i got a taxi from sinchon back to where i live and for some undiscernable reason contrived to leave my phone on the back seat.
the details;
i was with a korean friend who was going my way. i got out before him and he paid with his card when he got home. he says he can contact the card company and find out the details of the taxi company, i think. i know a lot of the drivers are independent so i doubt you'll get individual driver numbers or something but hopefully there will be some sort of information on the company. he's tried today but the card company is shut so tomorrows the day.
i've convinced various people to call and text the phone, and no-one ever answers. it still rings, which means it has battery, but for how long it will last i don't know.
thinking about it, no-one could be answering because:
1. the driver doesn't know it's there. unlikely as it's been ringing a lot etc, and it's pretty loud.
2. it's been put in some lost property box or somesuch.
3. the driver doesn't know how to answer it or can see english and doesn't want to. both highly unlikely but still, a possibility.
4. the driver doesn't want to answer it, and wants to keep it or something.
either way, there's nothing i can do until monday. but going on the worse case scenario, i.e it's gone, never to be seen again, what can i do?
i'll have to contact SK and tell them i lost it. but it's in a korean friends name, so he'll have to do it. it's on contract, so i don't know how getting a replacement works. i know they only give out such long contracts because the phone is deemed to be worth a lot, and i'm barely into it time wise.
will i have to pay the cost for a whole replacement handset? which i think runs about 800,000 or something. ouch.
any information on what would happen if i do have to go that way is very much appreciated! |

Don't iPhones have an app that tells you where they are? |

sympathies...same thing happened to me - but had just slid out my pocket... luckily when my wife called it the cabbie answered very quick... I'd been super nice and chatty to him so was confident he would return it if he realized it was me that left it behind ...
So yesterday I stopped off to buy insurance at the Show place after that scare...and it turns out it was already insured because I was in one of the first waves of people who applied for it (covered until March I believe)
So basically find out if it was automatically insured with the contract... -Update: if you were on at least the minimum of 45,000Won contract you're probably insured...
If not..Korea does have a good system that compensates every taxi driver for handing a phone to the post office (3man won as I remember) who find out your address and post it back to you.. (probably your friend's address in this case?)...one good thing about Korea - probably one of the best places if you're going to lose your phone! |

That stinks. I found a really nice touch phone last year and had my coteacher call the owner's dad to have him come pick it up. He brought me a case of baccus, which was sweet of him. I'm sure his daughter was happy. It was a 500,000 won phone.
I hope you get it back. I'm not sure if it's possible for someone to change it to their account. Let's hope not! |

Insurance costs like 3,000 won for almost full coverage on the iPhone (you'd pay like 100,000). See if you've got that.
Also, if it doesn't show up and you need a new phone make sure you report yours as lost or stolen. That way SHOW will block the phones IMEI (individual serial number that can't be changed) so that it can't be used by someone else (in Korea AND worldwide). |

The other option is that the next person in the cab found it and took it. IF you don't get it back, that's where I'd place my money. I've had many a friend leave their phones in a taxi, and they've all gotten them back, BUT it was always from the driver. An iPhone found by a random taxi rider, that might be a different story. |

Sorry to hear about your quandary. After a shopping trip, I left my new Coach purse on the floor of a taxi, with my brand new cell phone in it. Called for over a week and no one picked up my phone. I'm thinking whoever got in after me took it. Hope you have better luck! |

so, no update as yet. waiting on the korean guy to get in touch with me, but without a phone, it's kinda difficult!
thanks for the replies guys, much appreciated. i'll have a look into the insurance thing, i'm on a plan that is more than 45,000 so fingers crossed something about that is true if it turns out bleak.
everyone i speak to always says good things, but you're right...if it's not the taxi driver then it might not be quite as good. thing is, it's not a 4g, it's a battered old 3gs, with cracked screen, so it's not exactly the most coveted thing right now... |

Your students come from families with way too much cash. |
