Curious as to what kind of equipment people have in Korea.
I just bought some Yuin PK3s to use with my Galaxy S (which, thanks to several other Dave's posters, I have decided to use as my main media player). Those are probably what I'll use most of the time for convenience.
Also looking into some Shure e4c's for travel; and maybe even some Alessandro MS-1's
Edit: I personally am not an audiophile, but I'd like to think I have a better than average ear for quality in my music equipment. |

The amp and ad/da converter in the phone are nowhere near audiophile quality, and if you're using mp3s, it barely matters what you play them through. I'm not a real audiophile, but man, mp3s are rough, and ad/da conversion & amp quality are crucial. |

I've got the Beats by Dre (got as a gift), and they don't work with the Galaxy S. Just a heads up for anyone looking to buy them |

i've got klipsch S4s and they sound great. Perhaps too much bass for my base, but great sound stage, and good clarity. i've got an audiophile grade mp3player called Amp3 made by hisoundaudio. it has a clean sound signature. no excessive which so many media players nowadays have. |

I was pretty big into car audio before coming to Korea, and I have a budding interest in personal/portable audio.
The problem Ive found with personal audio players is-- you cannot have it all. Price, Features/Functions, Sound Quality, Logistics, and Build; it seems you always have to give up at least one.
I have the Shure e4cs. They are absolutely marvelous. Shure came out with the 425s about a month ago, so consider those. My left channel is finally going after 5 years of some pretty rough use, so Im leaning towards picking up the 535s when I get back home. |

Portable audio is a completely different field from home audio......and one I know a lot less about.....I was a home audio fan in the 90's. Had quite a nice system at one time.
One thing I do know about portable audio is that the geeks won't respect you until you use a headphone amp with your MP3 player. |

Lol. Went with the PK3s BECAUSE I wouldn't need an amp. They're supposed to sound fantastic. Impatiently awaiting their arrival at my doorstep! |

I like the neutral sound from the westone um3x (3drivers).... Pretty accurate. As for headphones, I have a few: sony mdr-7506, sennheiser 25mk2, aiai tma-1. But for walking about the westones are really good. |

the amp3 has a class a amp built into it. It is supposed to give CD quality sound to 128 kbs mp3 files. Unfortunately it is kind of thick, ugly and has poor user interface. THe upside is that it really does sound good.
The company that makes it has a smaller sleeker unit for sale on gmarket under the name of soricom for about 30,000 won. It is basically a shuffle, so all it does is play music. |

I have a pair of custom IEM's by JH Audio, the JH-5's. I love them. The fit is amazing (noise cancellation and comfort) and so is the sound quality. |

Typical audiophile nonsense! How can a class A amp give Cd quality to anything? A 128kb mp3 file is hopelessly compressed. You can never get CD quality from a 128kb mp3 file!
I suppose you have to charge it with a special $500 cable? |

I'm interested in upgrading my audiophile card, but these listed are all earbuds. so far, I haven't found comfortable earbuds that stay in my ears. are there any wrap-around-the-ear headphones that are high quality? |

Look carefully, I said "suppose to." That is what the company claims at any rate. I don't completely buy it myself. However, I have compared it to a lot of other mp3 players and it has a much cleaner sound signature and wider sound stage than almost all other mp3players. Of course its all about personal preference. Nowadays many people are obsessed with getting a lot of bass. The amp3 doesn't produce excessive amounts of bass, so bass hounds won't care for it much.
You can give it a go yourself. Check out the one I mentioned on gmarket. The soricom has great sound quality. It also has only 2gbs of memory, but it can take a micro sd card up to 16gbs. Another downside is that the battery life is rated for 10 hours. it's only 30,000 won so even if you don't like it, you haven't wasted a large amount of money.
Oh yeah, my mp3 player uses a standard usb cable. It's not an apple or a sony.

have you tried ordering additional ear pieces. a good set of earbuds come with several sets of ear pieces. IF none of those fit you can order some foam ear pieces. Those should work. |
