Strange times inside my laptop here right now.

Went up the spout last week (windows ate itself, lots or errors/crashes) so went for a reinstall, needed it anyway, installed it yesterday fine, lots of rebooting inbetween driver changes, sent some emails, installed chrome did some surfing. Came back today to turn it on, it just gets stuck at the starting windows screen has been there for over an hour now, no luck, rebooting does nothing, can't repair the install sing the windows disk, nothing to restore to as only installed yesterday!

I'm guessing some hdd problem, something mbr related, but my knowedge there is thin.

Unless its an obvious known issue I've missed? Can't understand how it sitting there turned off overnight can cause issues!

/edit, sorry never said, Windows 7 Ultimate, Sony Vaio E Series laptop

If it was working at one point it should be repair-able. If you installed drivers it automatically created a restore point.

Boot from disk, as if doing a fresh install, after you select language you get an option in the lower left corner to "repair your computer." Try that.

If that doesn't work, try a complete fresh install. If it still wont work it could be hardware related.

The repair opinion just mocks me, progress bar keeps cycling for ages then it stays can't repair it, did get it into 640x480 safe mode, so think it could be a bad gfx driver, that and for some reason a windows update attacking me!
