So I'm starting a pretty aggressive routine in the next few weeks. It calls for a protein bar a day of about 20g of protein each bar.

Korea, simply does not have anything that comes close to that. I found some on gmarket that were almost there, but they were well over 2 or 3 dollars a piece. I refuse to pay that much for a low quality protein bar. I could order then from the US, but with the prices I've got worked out on the amount I need and the shipping, I'm looking at like $250 for them. That's stupid, I can't pay that much for protein bars.

I found some protein at Costco, not great quality, but it'll have to do. GNC tubs are like $150 here and again ordering from state side would cause me to take out a loan for them.

So, I wonder if anyone has found a decent protein bar here that I've missed? Or, if there is an Army guy that might be willing to buy some for me from the base. I'd be willing to pay a little extra for that. Or, is there a homemade recipe anyone has come across that works well?

If push comes to shove, I could just add an extra protein shake a day since it's more accessible, but the nutrition part of this plan is pretty strict. Having something more solid than a shake in my stomach might keep me from getting too hungry and cheating.

I too would like to know if there are any decent bars around for a non-ridiculous price. They would be rather handy!

As an idea:

Mix the shake into some high fibre cereal instead of using milk. Oats would be perfect but they're not the easiest to come by. Just make sure the cereal is low in simple sugars and high in fibre. This should hit your nutritional marker and give you something more solid in your gut.

I have a friend that is working on building muscle mass and he is taking a couple of different shakes a day and supplementing it with tuna, peanut butter, tuna and some more peanut butter. He seems to know his shiz and I can vouch for 잠지 being full of protein. Perhaps you could eat this instead of protein bars?

I used to mix natty pb and some chocolate whey to make my own protein bars when I tried out keto.

I make shakes. I use skim milk or whey powder and water, a frozen banana, and peanut butter.

http://www.mass119.com/ Shipping is only $10. I get a 5lb tub of Optimum nutrition Whey for 54,000 there. Not a bad price considering it's coming from the states. They have a pretty good selection of protein bars there too. Not a huge markup considering the exchange rate. I get the Universal Nutrition Animal Snak 16 pack (30g protein) for 41,000. Not great tasting but not bad either for a protein bar.

I think you can only order with a national id. My wife gets them for me. So you might have to ask a Korean friend to do it.

You can make your own bars with some Costco/Namdaemun oats, whey and mix. Bake em or press em, lots of recipes online.

Supreme Protein, available at www.anabolic-korea.co.kr, bars are great tasting, very filling and, at 35,000 for 12 (2900 won per bar), not a terrible price for waht they are. 100g bars, 30g protien, and just enough fat to make them taste good. Rocky Road is my fav.

mass119.com has bars too. They are a tiny bit pricier than anabolic-korea, but ship faster and usually include samples.

Don't know what you can find at Namdaemun, but prob Powerbars... if you're into eating cardboard.

Oh, and if you're gonna do an aggressive routine, start taking Animal Paks.

Price here is very decent, 33,000 for a 44 day supply. It's keep you energized, a bit more pumped, and most importantly - HEALTHY.

It also has a big dose of milk thistle in there in case you're taking anything liver toxic in your supps.

PM me if you need to know more

I asked this same question a few months ago.

Someone recommended: http://www.iherb.com/default

Haven't ordered from them yet, myself but their international shipping is reasonable, $4 by airmail if 3 lbs or less, that's roughly the size of a box. And they've got a good selection of bars.

I haven't done the math yet, but it might actually be cheaper to make 5 single orders and have em each shipped for $4 instead of buying 5 boxes together and having it shipped for $50.

First of all, if you're making your own bars, you do not need to buy imported quaker quick oats. Oatmeal can be bought online on gmarket, 9000krw for a kilo. http://search.gmarket.co.kr/challenge/neo_search/search_total.asp?page=1&page_size=50&keyword=%BF%C0%C6%AE%B9%D0&list_type=&delivery_group_no=&searchtype=&gdlc=&gdmc=&gdsc=&InResult=&PrevKeyword=&exceptKeyword=&tabSearchType=&sortfield=&IsMileage=&IsDiscount=&IsStamp=&IsOversea=&IsOld=&IsFeeFree=&IsGuild=&IsVisit=&IsGift=&IsWithoutFee=&delFee=&TradWay=&OrderType=&PriceStart=&PriceEnd=&keywordOrg=%BF%C0%C6%AE%B9%D0&keywordCVT=%BF%C0%C6%AE%B9%D0&keywordCVTi=1&SearchClassFormWord=&IsTabSearch=&anchor=
Second, you will never pay $50 in shipping for any order from iherb. You WILL, however, pay customs tariffs if you spend too much at one time.

I make my own using this recipe. Not sure where I found it though...
1 square of unsweetened baking chocolate
4 scoops of protein powder
2 tbsp milk
2 tbsp butter ( I use water instead)
2 tbsp water
1/2 cup of coconut flakes
1 cup chopped almonds

Melt the baking chocolate and the butter in the microwave for 1 minute, stirring until melted. Add milk, stirring until creamy. Next, add protein powder, nuts, and bran, stirring until everything is coated evenly. Add water, mixing thoroughly. At this point the mixture may become very stiff. You should knead it like dough until the mixture is uniform throughout. Finally, line a bread loaf pan with plastic wrap and press the mixture into the pan firmly and evenly. Chill until very firm. The recipe can be cut into 6 bars or servings.

You can adjust it so you get the amount of calories and protein you want.

This works well, considering how most "protein bars" are just candy bars with a lot of protein. Sugar alcohols are just more carbs.

Those look half decent. Thanks.

Other items to add would be flaxseed, oatmeal, dried cranberries, raisins, all available at Costco.
