Hi guys,

Is it weird that CDI doesn't compensate for a return flight home? I might not accept the offer because of that...

That is but 1 of the many reasons to NOT sign with CDI.

They don't fly you home? That's not right. Are we misreading a contract? Who would sign that? I don't leave for another month and I've already been compensated for my return flight.

EDITED***

CDI says that they will reimburse half of your ticket when you arrive and the other half when the contract ends. They referring to a round trip ticket. in their contract it goes into detail about flying out to your destination or a destination of equal or lesser value if you choose.

I heard that CDI require you to attend training at the start, and if you fail, then you will be alone in Korea without employment. It sounded very risky to me. I assume AFTER you pass the initial training, they'll reimburse your flight money (I could be wrong though).

If they fire you, which is what it sounds like they're in essence telling you they might do, just go to immigration and get a release order and get another job, hopefully with the public school system. Hopefully you're coming to Korea with some money saved up, otherwise you better make sure you work for the public school system in Korea and not a private school.

young_clinton.....
did this happen to you or anyone you know?

I have heard the tests are just like any other test employers make you take after orientation.

NEVER take a job with a hagwon that does not prepay for your flight!

CDI does this so that can and will fire you if they don't like you for any reason! Maybe they don't like how you look or maybe they found another teacher that they like better. Sorry buddy but you are out of a job and you've paid for your airfare to Korea.

Getting released is easy but there is no guarantee that you will get a good job that quickly! How are you going to manage if you need to go 3 weeks before you get a new job? Or if the new school won't reimburse airfare as you're already in Korea.

Basically, you'll bend over backwards doing things you normally wouldn't as you want your airfare reimbursed!

Why start your year like this when 99.9% of the other hagwons will pay for your flight upfront!

I know of people that paid for their airfare, and then failed training! Training is another "interview". They are weeding out people they don't like. It's a week of stress when you are jet lagged. CDI is a shaddy shaddy place

Thirteen to be exact. Does one really need the search function?

OT:
To those suggesting the use of the "search function" - have you tried using it? It's notorious for being slightly less useful than lactating mammary glands on a male bovine Smile
That said, when it DOES work, it helps...

OT ends
