Quiz to test your accent.
Only works for Americans although I suppose it would be funny to see what it says if you're not.

Neutral

You`re not Northern, Southern, or Western, you`re just plain -American-. Your national identity is more important than your local identity, because you don`t really have a local identity. You might be from the region in that map, which is defined by this kind of accent, but you could easily not be. Or maybe you just moved around a lot growing up.

Laughing I am Canadian.

I got "Neutral", which is what I've heard for people that live in Oregon, a very plain and wide-spoken accent, probably the most spoken English accent overall.

It makes sense, with the whole Oregon Trail thing, having the Midwest accent.

I've lived my whole life before Korea in the Pacific NW, including four years in Portland, and I also got "neutral", or as I call it, "west coast" accent.

Boring ol' "Neutral" for me too. I'm more or less from Idaho.

Neutral though I don't think of it as West Coast, but "educated Midwest" accent, the one you hear in the media from anchors, correspondents, etc.

The difference between stalk and stock? Stalk has an "all' sound. Stock has an "ah" sound.
I would pronounce them the same in normal speech, because I also have a "western" accent.

What? We'll see about this.

Northeastern -

This could either mean an r-less NYC or Providence accent or one from Jersey which doesn't sound the same. Just because you got this result doesn't mean you don`t pronounce R's.(People in Jersey don`t call their state "Joisey" in real life)

I can only assume as an Englishman that Northeastern Americans are the most correct ^_^

Stalk has an 'or' sound for me. Stock has a sound closer to 'oh' like 'top'

I rated a "North Central", which they said is often called a "Minnesota Accent". Now I was born and raised in Orlando, Florida, but both of my parents were from Cleveland, Ohio, so it does make at least a little sense to rate like that. Florida has such a weird demographic mix of southern, northeastern, midwestern, and spanish speakers.

ipa pronunciation:

stalk: /stɔk/

stock: /stɒk/

so, pretty much a very subtle difference

Northern.

You have a Northern accent. That could either be the Chicago/Detroit/Cleveland/Buffalo accent (easily recognizable) or the Western New England accent that news networks go for.
