Anyone taking the TOPIK (Test of Proficiency in Korean) this weekend? I'm taking it for the first time. I wrote down the "test taker number" (수험번호)- is there anything else I need to make sure to bring in with me? |

You need to bring the "수험표" test taker certificate paper thing, I'm not sure if the number alone is enough. If you registered for the test online you can login to the website and print it yourself. If you don't have access to a printer, just show up to the test site a little early and go to the office. They usually have a computer available where you can print one off. The only other thing that you need is a photo ID, either your alien registration card or passport.
They provide computer pens to use for marking the answers for the multiple choice section, and they also provide white-out tape for corrections but only one per classroom so you have to raise your hand and get someone's attention to be able to use it, if you don't want to waste time it's not a bad idea to bring your own. You can also use a pencil for the writing section only, I think it's a lot easier to use an eraser than that white tape stuff. So brining a pencil and eraser may not be a bad idea if you make as many mistakes as I do.
Can't think of anything else you would need. Good luck! |

Thanks for the advice! It's a relief to hear I'll be able to use a pencil for the writing portion. Is that only for the essay or for the sentence writing as well?
My other big concern is being allowed to get up and pee...not during the listening section when I would disrupt others, obviously. But I am 9 months pregnant, and should perhaps mention that to someone beforehand- sometimes I'm fine and sometimes I just...need to go.
And finally, would anyone get annoyed if I shoved some earplugs in my ears? I have great noise-canceling headphones too, but they might get suspicious that I was cheating somehow, I guess. I just have problems focusing with sounds of test-taking around me sometimes, that's all... |

You can use a pencil for both the sentence writing and essay writing.
They will not let you leave the room during the test periods. I don't know if you've seen the schedule but the test is divided into two sections, each 90 minutes. First is vocabulary, grammar, and writing. Then there is a 30 minute break where you are allowed to leave the room. And finally there is the listening and reading section which is also 90 minutes. You can not leave the room during either of the 90 minute sessions, and I doubt they will make an exception for you, even if you're pregnant. Even if you finish the test early they will not allow you to leave the room until the full 90 minutes is up.
About the ear plugs... I have no Idea. It might be a good idea to show up a little early and ask someone before the test begins. |
