|
|
Hi everyone, I'm looking for some advice regarding renewals within Gepik while changing school and level. I'm teaching elementary at the minute on my second contract with the same school. They've been great to me and I've been good to them in return so they're eager to hold onto me for a third year. They are talking of renewal already.
I feel bad about it but I'm studying at the minute and it requires teaching practice of 16+ year olds for a few months at various intervals to complete this phase of my course.
So I need to move onto a high school to progress in my studies.
Ideally I'd like to stay in the same city too so I'm wondering how can I stay within Gepik, move schools, change from elementary to highschool without losing any of my pay grade increases and organize it asap to avoid hassle for my school.
Cheers for any advice guys much appreciated. |

If you change schools, even within the same district, it is considered a NEW contract and NOT a renewal or continuation of your old job (it even says so in the standard GEPIK contract).
You will need to produce the same documents that you would for a NEW VISA application (it is a public school) so even if immigration allowed the transfer your school (GEPIK) will require new documentation like a new application.
Better order your CRC and get your degree copy made and get an apostille for it.

Mmnn my school requested the same documents last renewal too - I have my original degree which I keep getting back after each fresh contract and I think the only other thing I had to request was a police check from Korean authorities.
As it's a fresh contract will I still retain my 2 year pay increments within Gepik or is that specific to the school ?
Similarly do I have to apply as a fresh candidate for Gepik or can I make a request of them for a change of school citing the reasons given i.e. - education progression ?
If I lose the pay increments and have to run the risk of not being able to renew within Gepik and effectively start with them again it's a much less viable venture, I may have to stall my further education and stick with my school. |

As I understand it, you want to transfer schools and get a salary increase- this does not happen. They will treat you as a new hire with regard to payment, but they do recognize your experience so you should lose money.
Do you know where the high schools in your area are? Network some of the co-teachers.. there is bound to be someone that will know of a vacancy. And if there isn't, you can adjust accordingly. |

I want to retain my level within Gepik as such - I didn't think it was particular to the school but I'm still unsure.
As in if I have a Tesol cert, undergrad and no experience I'm on 2.1m (cat 3), I have that and a years experience 2.2m (cat 2) - this year coming I should be on 2.3m as I'll have 2 years experience within Gepik and I'd be category 1.
So if I change school/level I go back to the same status as a fresh teacher with no experience? Category 3 in Gepik? |

You should stay at cat1 since you have your tesol and 2 years in the classroom.
You can't transfer a + category (above 2.3 mil) and would fall back to 2.3 if you moved.

ok that's great, so I have nothing to lose by moving if I do financially anyways - thanks for your advice dude much appreciated.
So how do I go about it - I know a few high school teachers in my area who seem to be either pretty happy and staying or in schools more akin to behavioral experiments who have no interest in staying as a result.
Should I contact my Gepik rep and put in a request to change school with a focus on the same city or do I run the risk of being placed anywhere then? |

bumpage guys
I've asked a few of the local high school teachers and they all seem to be staying in their positions. i.e. the networking element isn't working quick enough
The school will be talking about renewal soon and I don't want to mess them about with this.
Should I go through Gepik and request a change of level next year while staying in the same area if possible?
Or should I go with a recruiter again ? |

call the recruiter.
your GEPIK rep can't move you into a new job. Unless you know them REAL WELL, they probably won't even tell you which ones are opening up. It isn't part of their job. |
