My co teacher is pretty incompetent and her and the admin/pay guy mentioned the fact that Im entitled to 1.3m won leaving allowance. However, I believe Im also entitled to one month salary severance pay upon completion of contract, even though Im not renewing. I work for EPIK - any idea where it mentions this? I need to bring it up and I can't see it on the contract.....

There's a good chance they wont pay me if I dont mention it, thats how they roll in my school, so I have to but it'd be a good idea to have visual evidence of their obligations

It is in your contract AND it is in the labor standards act.

1.3 is for the airfare.

http://teachenglishinkorea.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=section&id=7&Itemid=69

"All EPIK GETs, regardless of level, who successfully complete a one-year contract, will be entitled to receive severance pay. Severance pay is equal to approximately one month's salary."

I am not familiar with "GET", but I don't think it changes things here.

You get severance and either they pay for the flight or they give you 1.3 for it. Two different things.

GET (General English Teacher), also used with NET, NES, etc.

Since your EPIK look at article 13 (benefits). The new aug 2010 contract talks about severance pay in article 13 sec. 7. I also know the 2008 contract was article 13 sec. 8. So basically it is in there.

Article 1: EPIK contract : GET = Guest English Teacher (although I think some schools think it stands for Gullible English Teacher).
