I haven't been here too long so I'm not well connected.

I rely, sometimes reluctantly, on my public school "handler" for help with the occasional information issues. I say reluctantly, as she's not she's not always what I'd call detail oriented or even clear in her communication with me.

I know some are relying on Korean friends etc. for assistance or information needed outside of school but I'm wondering if there is a service in Korea for assisting recently arrived folks with getting information about things, advocating for you etc...I suppose some people might help if they had a chance to practice English as well?

I might like to maintain privacy from my job on certain issues but the occasional extra resource for small things would be good from time to time also.

Thanks for any ideas.

While I've never used their services, I've heard very good things about the Seoul Global Center.

Yeah, the Seoul Global Center is really helpful for any questions you might have. I think you can just dial 120 from your phone (might need to add local area code if you are out of Seoul).

For a 24-hour tourism hotline in English, try calling 1330, for an operator at the Korea Tourism Organization.

Off-handedly, where did they come up with this term 'handler'? I've heard it a few times from teachers, and I swear the school board picked the word up in a dictionary. Handlers are for animals!!

Addendum: Although, some people might refer to me as a man'handler'; that ain't the same thing.

Thanks for the ideas. It sounds like they are a good resource for some things.

On handler - I always think of someone working as a spy who has a local "handler". You can see I have too much time on my hands right? Very Happy
