Hey everyone i'd really appreciate some help. I took a job in Incheon, signed the contract and sent over all my paperwork. I was due to start October 28th, but a week ago the school declares its bankrupt and can't pay the teachers.
So now my paperwork is in Limbo in South Korea (supposedly my recruiter has them). I put my two week notice in already at work and sold my motorcycle in preperation of my move.
What can I do? What are my options?
My recruiter keeps telling me to wait and that she has a good school for me. But the last school I'd researched the area and school extensively before hand now i'm stuck in a situation of picking schools in cities and areas i never would have wanted because of time constraints.
I'm currently in California; do i restart the whole process again ordering my paperwork, pick another country to work in?
Thanks, im hoping to make a bad situation a bit better... |

It's the weekend.
Take a deep breath and relax.
NOTHING is going to happen for at least 2-4 days.
If you have more than a BA (TESL cert and experience or licensed teacher) then perhaps look at other countries.
If you only have a BA and a desire to seek employment abroad (cause there is nothing at home) then just chill for a day or two. You will find work here; it just might take an extra week (especially if the school or immigration (rather than the recruiter) has your paperwork).
It could also be a case of:
1) the school found someone else (happens pretty often).
2) the school/job didn't exist and the recruiter wanted to ensure that you were locked into him (by getting your hard copies) and now is trying to sell you off to the next school who comes along.
In any case, just wait it out till next Tuesday or so before you hit the panic button. There are still lots of jobs in ESL and as long as you have a BA and clean CRC there won't be any difficulty in finding one.

Wait, so you WANTED to be in Incheon?
But seriously, stay cool. If you did your research and went this far with the recruiter I assume you trust him. You will be his top priority if he is any good. He will find you something decent and fast.
Order back ups of your FBI check, apostilled diplomas and transcripts now just in case. That way, if you take another position from the recruiter but hate it after a month or two, you will have everything you need to switch to a different school quickly. |

OP, there are plenty of other jobs available in Korea. Maybe this is all for the best that it went bankrupt BEFORE you started there. It could have been a very bad situation if you were owed months of backpayand had to go through a hagwon he11ish situation. |
