|
|
I am thinking about heading to Thailand for a week during the first week of January and had some questions and needed some advice.
- where are the best secluded beaches?
- where is a fun night life and shopping?
- what were your favorite islands to go and why?
- how many cities and islands should I cover in a week, but still enjoy and relax?
- where is a cool place to be on new years? I am looking for a light to medium party scene.
- how much would it cost to travel/live/eat/be entertained within Thailand?
Thank you so much, any advice or recommendations will be appreciated! |

Don't ruin your holiday by thinking so much.
Flip a coin or throw a dart at a map of thailand and then do that. |

Very useful information for someone who wants to do the whole country, has no clue about it and wants to do it all in a week....
buy a lonely planet or just look back through the travel forum for a few pages.
ALL your questions have been answered more times than you can count.

Anyone who is looking for a 'light to medium' party scene isn't looking for a party scene, you're looking for a bar. Spend 4 days in Bangkok, 1 day in Pattaya, 2 days at the beach. Say yes to everything you're offered.
Read the entirety of http://www.travelfish.org . Repeat. |

Ditto what ttompatz said...a week is NOTHING in Thailand.
Maybe a night/day in Bangkok & maybe 3 days in Hua Hin. At best as an alternative, you could spend a few days in Ko Samui before flying out. |

Heck, most fresh off the plane newbies never make it past Nana Plaza in their first week.

Gee, if only it was possible for someone to have fun in Thailand. Maybe someone should write a book or make a blog on the subject. |

I haven't been to Hua Hin, but I'd vote Kho Samet if you're looking for beaches close to Bangkok, particularly considering you get a lot more of that Thai island feel. |

Personally, I wasn't impressed with Samet. Surly, demanding staff & high prices. But, yeah, it's relatively close to Bangkok...even though with traffic a bus ride there/back can be a Job patience tester. |

1. Almost anywhere except Pattaya. Even on crowded Phuket there are some reasonably quiet beaches.
2. Bangkok
3. Phuket. The only one I have been to, but I loved it. Phi Phi was a ton of fun. I realize both are overrun by tourism but if you're only going for a week and maybe not again, you can't go wrong.
4. 1 city, 1 island. 2 islands if they're neighbouring.
5. Samui probably. Krabi would be cool too.
6. Mid-level, $100 a day. A little more if you're into tours, girls, or mass drinking.
