I found out yesterday that my boss has sold our hagwon, effective immediately. Although Monday was payday, he told my coworkers and I that he will hold our pay till the end of the month. At that point, he says he'll pay us the full amount up to that date AND transfer our 500,000 won bond directly to the new owner. After all his business is complete (early Nov), he will move back to his home country.
Am I being overly paranoid in thinking that my boss is probably trying to screw me over with pay? We're supposed to sign new contracts today, which I believe (from what I've read) will invalidate our original contracts, thus providing him with a nice legal loophole not to pay us. |

No, youre not being paranoid -- but there's nothing you can do until the pay is at least 14 days late. At that point, you can file a claim with the labor board for unpaid wages. Since your soon-to-be ex-boss is planning on leaving the country, you are pretty much SOL if he decides to screw you. |

You're NEVER paranoid in thinking that your boss is trying to screw you over. Assume for the rest of your time there that you're not going to end up being paid, be careful with your money.
Go to the labor board about this, the info is on one of the stickied threads. You might be in for a fight. |
