|
|
I was in E-Mart today and I noticed that you can buy a rack of ribs from Bennigan's. I've never eaten at Bennigan's before but I love ribs and I haven't had any for a couple of years. I live in a small town so I'm wondering if they're any good or if I should hold out until the next time I'm in a big city. Because I have ribs so rarely, I don't want to chance them if they're crap.
So have any of you tried them, and if so what was the verdict?
Thanks |

I have made/eaten better ribs back home many times, but honestly, for the price and where we are at, I was surprised by how good the ribs were -- even reheated in the microwave.
Granted, I have been in Korea a long time, and so my standards may have dropped and my hankerings may have grown, but if you have a toaster oven/ convection oven rather than a microwave, I would say they are quite worth it...and like I said, even with a microwave, I was surprised by how good they were.
If you are jonesin' for ribs, they are a decent fix. They were good enough to buy again, and I have tried both the extra garlic and the regular (though I would vote to stick with the regular -- more of the "classic" taste, while the garlic was more of a "fusion" kind of taste). |

There are other Bennigan's products at E-Mart. Anyone ever try any of the other stuff? |

Not sure about the prepackaged Bennigan's stuff at E mart but I ate at the restaurant by COEX mall (it was like 3 years ago and might have closed doen by now) but it was pretty bad. I ordered the Monte Cristo and it made me throw up within 20 minutes. And this is coming from a guy who is not a picky eater, I often eat day old fast food that has been sitting on my counter and doesn't make me sick. It might be good but I have bad memories of it.
Oh no now i'm in the mood for Ribs. |

I think you can describe Bennigan's that way in general.
Their parent company filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy in 2008 and all the corporate-owned locations in the US closed. The Korean franchise seems to be doing well though. But I never understood why Bennigan's in Korea has mostly pasta and ribs on the menu, and no burgers. But then, KFC in Korea doesn't seem to have mashed potatoes, biscuits, or mac and cheese, either.
Personally, I like going to the Incheon Airport Bennigan's for cheap, cold draft Cass and bacon cheese fries as I'm waiting for my flight. |

I agree, i've only been to Bennigans once and i also stupidly ordered the Monte Cristo, which I believe was one of the cheaper items on their overpriced menu.
For those who are unaware, the Monte Cristo is a deep fried sandwich topped with a lot of powdered sugar. It was disgusting, and since i stupidly ate the whole thing I felt bloated for a full 24 hours.

There is actually a form of Korean short ribs available at some Korean restaurants. They boil them and then marinate them in Kalbi sauce. You eat them straight off the burner they give you glove to wear and they cut them with scissors. They are awesome. |

Avoid the one at COEX. Vongole was swimming in some sort of vegetable broth and most of the clams did not open. Not worth 16,800 plus VAT. Their quality has really gone downhill recently. |
