|
|
I signed a contract for 6 months.
Is there such a thing as a 6 month visa?
When the 6 months are up, could I extend the visa for 3-6 months?
Or is it necessary to sign a 12 month contract for this? |

You'll probably be given a a year visa. I signed a 7 month contract and got a year visa. So if you extend your contract by 3-6 months you probably (always a good idea to double check) won't need to extend your visa. However if you change employers you will need to go to the immigration office and file for a change of employer with a letter of release from your current employer, there is some kind of processing fee, but I believe it's fairly straight forward. |

Are you with the TaLK program? They are a special case, government run program and they have their own rules.
E2 visas (the thing in your passport) are generally issued with a 90 day expiry and 1 year validity.
Changing or extending your contract will require an application to immigration (along with some paperwork from your employer).
Changing employers is a whole new ball of wax and is largely case dependent on whether or not you can transfer to the new employer or need to get a new visa.
Until you actually get here, it is largely irrelevant.

Hey just curious, did you ask for 6 months or is that what the employer offered? And did u get either incoming or departing airfare with that? I ask because I have considered doing 6 months in Korea, and 6 months elsewhere if it was feasible. |

It was advertised as either a 6 or 12 month position. Its not a big city so thats why I got the choice. If you want Seoul or Busan for 6 months your best chance is with the English Villages such as SEV Suyu. |

Thanks!
Do you get any benefits with a 6 month contract, like apartment, and airfare? Bonus/severance? |

You get free accommodation, a one-way flight paid and no severance (unless I decide to extend to 12 months)
If you're not too fussy about location for 6 months you could try the English Village in Paju which pays 2.4m and has about 100 foreign teachers |
