Hello,

I'm wondering if its possible to change a tourist visa into a student (language study, not university) in Korea if I study in a university program. If not, how long do I have to go out of the country to get my visa? And if I get this visa, is it posible to change it later into a full time study (university program) visa within Korea?
Thanks.

There's some info about this on the Sogang site.
It's under FAQ on their website:
http://klec.sogang.ac.kr/

It looks like you can do this but they recommend a month or two for the student visa.

Also follow the link to the visa section.

As far as the first part of your question, the answer may be on the link.

Concerning the second part of your question, you should not have to leave Korea to change from D-4, to D-2, unless this has changed recently. I originally came to Korea with D-2, then went to D-4 for a year, then back to D-2 and never had to leave the country for any of those changes.

I was on a tourist visa (B-2) in Korea and was able to change to a D-2-C at immigration in 2008. This was performed at the Sejongno Branch Office.

The title of the stamp in my passport is capitalized, "PERMISSION FOR CHANGE OF STATUS OF SOJOURN" and reads "Status of sojourn of the bearer of this passport is amended as D-2-C".

I do not have a definitive example or answer for this regarding the D-4. I hope it is possible, please let us know what you find out.

It may be discretionary or you could have different results at various offices.
