What surprises me isn't the racial double standard, it's the gender one.
Someone on the Herald site made a valid point.
Apparently the message here is that it's not okay to commit adultery (particularly, although not exclusively) when you're a male, but if you're a female and the other willing participant is a kid, you're A-Okay.
Maybe the charge of adultery has to be filed by the husband...? |

Having sex with a child trumps the adultery charge in any country I would think.
Especially between a teacher/student.
You would go to prison in the US for sure.
What gets me is that the "netcitizens" are not in an up roar. This whole freaking country would be protesting if a foreigner was the one screwing a 15 year old.
Double standard as you said....
This teache'rs husband must really feel inadequate! And embarrassed! But then...he probably screws around on the side anyway...
This student is now the envy of all his buddies! And a big 'ol grin on his face! |

I've been told that the adultery charge can only be filed if adultery becomes a primary cause for divorce.
Of course in this case, there's no telling what is likely to happen. |

The US probably isn't the best counterexample, given the doublestandard that exists for female statuatory rapists. If a 33-year-old man had sex with a 15-year-old student there'd the quite the uproar, but when it's reversed the kid gets high fives and it becomes joke material on the talk shows.
I think that this case is in the papers shows that at least some people are upset by it. The "netizens" go about it in the wrong way by, as usual, going after the teacher's personal information and pictures, but at least from their reaction (and the coverage this story is getting) that people are upset by it. And, that Korean teachers are getting away with sex crimes without punishment hasn't escaped the attention of some lawmakers and citizens:

Citing the US as a counterexample is wrong, as I said, given the lack of support for men as victims of sex crimes and manipulation. But the foreigner example is apt. Foreign men are demonized enough here already for consensual sex and interracial marriage with adult women . . . if an NSET were found having sex with a 9th-grader---even though it's apparently "legal"---we'd never hear the end of it. |

I read she has 3 kids. 2 kindies and one elementary kid. Don't know if Naver is right or the Herald. |

Many US female teachers that slept with their students back in the good ol US, get nothing more than a slap on the wrist and maybe a little public ridicule.
I can only think of one that went to actual prison.
Now if a male teacher slept with a student, he would be labeled a pedo |
