I had an interview last week and was accepted a job, excellent perks but my recruiter failed to tell them that my husband was coming as well and they have e-mailed me to cancel my contract, because the dorms single only.
I'm with JJ Recruitment at the moment and i was going to be joining CBFLIS school. |

Yes, living in a dorm is a great perk. Sounds like you really missed out on a great opportunity. |

the recruiter was JJ Recruitment
with regards to the perks, it was a single dorm/apartment, fully furnished. open planned and a bit small i guess.
but they were going to pay for all my utility bills, cable tv, internt, gas, electricity, local phone. and i was going to get a meal allowance and a decent settling in allowance.
airfare was included.
so is this recruitment agnecy no good?
i appreciate all feedback. |

I'm on JJ's mailing list and I have serious doubts that all the jobs they claim to have actually exist. |

It probably would have been a good idea to let them know about anything like that, though, considering how 99% of teachers are single when they get a contract for Korea. Tough break, good luck. |

OP, consider yourself lucky. Living in a dorm in Korea is just another way of saying: "no sleep for 12 months."
Good luck. You can get a better job. |

OP, I also was wondering about CBFLIS, is it the one in Jincheon? There is almost no info online about it, so it's hard to find out if its a good gig or not. Is there a good website you know of?
And for your situation, perhaps your significant other can apply too, I live in the same apt building as my NET gf but we live in separate appts. That way your recruiter also gets two signup bonuses.
Also what is bad about dorms? Is it because the students run wild and drive the NETs mad? The job seems like it is well setup and would potentially be less unpredictable than a PS/Hagwon job. The unpredictable craziness can be tiring! |

rookieglobetrotter yes the school is in Jincheon, i also found it difficult to find any information on the net but i saw some videos of the school on youtube. an American teacher from 2008 has made a few videos.
the school is isloated but has an onsite gym etc.
the dorm was open plan and quite small, the only thing seperate was the bathroom.
i had asked JJ recruitment to inform all schools that my husband would be coming with me and the agent informed that she had
and my husband is not a teacher, he has a British passport but he was born in Pakistan and his education took place there as well.
in england he works as a shift manager for McDonalds and his English is fluent. he has an IELTS certificate and a Bsc in computer Science (Paksitani university though).
i did tell the school that we don't need a big apartment, just a double bed. |

It sounds like you're describing a studio apartment, not a dorm. |

yes, sorry. the dorm was the school's choice of word. but you're right it is an apartment.
i did say to the school that i don't mind sharing a single apartment, but they insist i won't be comfortable |

Did the school say that directly to you? Or did the recruiter? You know that recruiters aren't always upfront about everything, right? They may have recommended a couple of people for the position and then just told you and the other applicants that the school changed their mind, so that you'd think that the recruiter was doing his/her job and just the school was dishonest. Happens all the time.
It's also possible that the school simply found someone that they like better, or they didn't want be bothered with the potential admin problems of your husband being here, or whatever else, so they made up that "We think you won't be comfortable." BS excuse. |

To be fair, they might be right. My old place was about 100 square feet (9x11). Two people couldn't really coexist in a space like that. |

Why would you ever sign onto a place where you had to live in a dorm? This isn't University anymore. I live in a nice apartment and I don't pay a won. Living in a dorm... LOL |
